Hey everyone, and happy Friday.

This week's Subscriber Only playlist takes us on a journey into the most exciting guitar-based sound of the past few years: Crank Wave, or "The Windmill Scene", as the storied Windmill Pub in Brixton served as a kind of incubator for the sound where bands like Squid, Shame and Black Country, New Road found acclaim (don't worry, the Nordics and the Irish are repping too).

An offshoot of the Post-Punk revival, Crank Wave is a big tent term for a style of indie rock typically defined by spoken singing (indebted to Mark E. Smith of The Fall) over driving basslines and angular guitars.
